Up late one night and cannot sleep
I’ve already counted five-hundred sheep.
I grab the remote to watch some TV
Flip through the channels and what do I see?
A lovely young woman making a cake
For Network TV she will show how to bake.
In the middle of frosting her layers of sweet
She looks up in surprise as her eyes meet…
Throwdown with Iron Chef Bobby Flay
Looking for mortals to take down and slay.
The challenge is German Chocolate Cake
With caramel, nuts and coconut flake.
This is no easy task for the judges
Hopefully no one will hold any grudges.
Her filling a secret held close to the vest
His layers a mesh of tastes put to the test.
Sleep no longer a thought in my mind,
As the judges confer and prepare to opine.
The winner is Bobby with frosting ganache
His victim her glory he put the kibosh.
I fell asleep dreaming of chocolaty bliss
Godiva, Belgian and creamy Swiss.
This, of course, is Bobby Flay’s German Chocolate Cake Recipe. It is one of the best cakes I have ever made. I love the way the ganache turned out, rich and glossy. I highly recommend it for a special occasion, but if you don’t want to spend four hours in the kitchen, do not attempt this one.
I watched the same show! His cake looked absolutely amazing!
This looks like it would be a slice of AMAZING. Please put my wedge in the overnight FedEx so I can devour it!
Hi Everyone,
I’m Suzie,s Father and I can testify to the fact that she is a great Cook. She is coming to visit me this weekend and we will be cooking up a storm… probably something to do with fish. We will be posting a recipe maybe later.
Wow Dad! Thank you for your kind words. That is high praise coming from a sophisticated palate such as yours. I can’t wait to cook with you this weekend. Love You!
Sue,
Your poem about your dad was wonderful. You are so talented. Love you
Sue,
How many and size of pans did you use? I understand the mix over flows the pan if you follow the recp.
When did you add the flour? Four layers?
Yours looks GREAT!
Thanks
Don
Sue,
Thank you for getting back to me. I tried the cake yesterday and yes it is everything you said and more. I had no problems with anything over flowing.
It does take some time and you have a lot of dishes to wash along the way, but worth it. I figured it cost about $25 to make this first one because of some of the things you need and can use for others cakes over time.
While my cake tasted great it didn’t look nearly as nice as yours. I need to work on getting my layers even.
Thanks again,
Don
Hi there! I have the same questions as Don…. I’m making this yummy cake for Thanksgiving at the in-laws and want to make sure it turns out right! Any pointers would be greatly appreciated! Yours looks delicious!!!
Interesting read. You must have done your preparation for this article. I’ve bookmarking this for furture reference. Thanks again ! x-D
